Research Duration Start:
3 January 2018
30 November 2018
Research Location USA
Research Description The proposal responses to the Drug Discovery and Development R&D priority area of the Department, which aims to produce to safe, effective and affordable medicine from local natural sources to address leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the country. The proposal contributes to two Budget Priorities Framework: (1) making growth inclusive by contributing to programs that will ensure the health of Filipinos, and (2) sustaining growth momentum by supporting and developing the local herbal and pharmaceutical industry.
Research Objectives Under the Drug Discovery and Development area, the project aims to discover potential compounds for further drug development, particularly antimicrobials from actinomycetes in Iloilo, in response to the need for safe, more affordable and effective treatments for multi-drug resistant infections. The project will involve R&D work, which will also serve as an avenue for training of project personnel, and the upgrade of research facilities to make a drug discovery research center in region VI.
Research Beneficiary(ies) Health care benefits to the community, pharmaceutical industries, and research community
