Research Location PGC
Research Description Proteomic and Metabolomic analysis provides a direct assessment of the proteins expressed and the metabolites produced by a particular organism. These provide the necessary traits that allow organisms to have specialized functions. Differences in their proteomes and metabolomes can provide the difference between normal and cancerous tissue, and provide the characteristic traits of different organism varieties. Proteomic and Metabolomic analysis may be used to uncover the key components for desired traits, and therefore provides the opportunity to harness these traits for practical applications.
Research Objectives 1) To establish proteomics and metabolomics infrastructure and technology platforms to service the immediate needs of the health, agriculture, forensics and ethnicity, and biodiversity programs of the Philippine Genome Center and other clients in the public and private sectors; 2) To embark on research programs geared towards the discovery and use of functional molecules of biological and biomedical importance and the development of innovative therapeutic strategies and technologies from the generated research; 3) To train and produce competent and innovative human resources through research, training and education in Omics level technologies; and 4) To promote cross-disciplinary research of the advancement of scientific discovery and enterprise.
Research Beneficiary(ies) 1) Researchers in Academe and Industry; 2) High School and Undergraduate Student Research Clients; 3) Stake holders in the component research project fields.
Research Accoplishments [CY 2018] 1) Establishment of the Protein, Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility at the PGC; 2) Training of the Research and Service Team for the PPM; 3) Publication of Research Findings from Component Research Projects (9/ 3 Year)
