Research Description The project will look into the development of a platform on realtime monitoring of SHS Health and usage along with a payment innovation for solar home system (SHS) component ownership through a lay away routing. The product will offer a series of prepaid payment mechanisms either through Short Messaging Service (SMS), Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) or Conditional Access Module (CAM). Through payments, the platform uses one of the chosen mechanisms to activate the SHS until the next installment is due. The device will also deactivate the system when the subsequent payment is not made. After predetermined schedule of payments is complete, the PISOLAR is unlocked and subsequent payments will be lesser than the previous. These payments will be used for the operation and maintenance, battery replacement and system upgrading. PISOLAR will be using cloud-based software system for digitation of payments and real-time monitoring of SHS health and usage
Research Objectives The general objective of the project is to develop, test, and deploy a wireless/card-based platform as a payment innovation for the SHS to acquire its ownership via lay-awayroutine. It specifically aims to 1) design and develop a solar home system (SHS) having a control module with three payment modes: SMS, WSN, and CAM, as an enforcement mechanism to regulate access to said SHS; 2) design and develop a cloud-based software system for digitation of costumer payments and tracking of SHS status; 3) conduct pilot testing of the developed technologies to three target communities and 4) organize a solar community association and implement sustainability programs for SHS with the industry partner (LEADTECH Inc.)
